Wests maintained the outright lead in the Mojo Homes Illawarra Cup with a 40-26 win over De La Salle at Parrish Park on Saturday. The Devils scored seven tries to the visitor’s five. Mitch Porter converted six from seven to secure a 14-point victory after leading 22-10 at the break.
Defending premiers, Collegians leapfrogged De La Salle into second place on the ladder with a come-from-behind 52-22 win over Dapto. Collies trailed Dapto 16-4 late in the first half after the Canaries crossed the stripe three times in 20 minutes. Sam McCann posted four tries, with Jay Watling and Campbell Rubie picking up doubles.
In the remaining match, Thirroul proved too strong for Corrimal in the ‘battle of the beaches,’ scoring 50 unanswered points. Wests and Collegians maintained their top two positions in First Division with wins over Helensburgh and Dapto, respectively.
