The Steelers Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership team will run out for their final home game of the season when they take on the Newcastle Knights this Saturday at Collegians Sporting Complex.
Fresh off a come-from-behind 24-22 win against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at the same venue on Monday night, Hawke says it was an important and character-building win for the squad.
Illawarra led 12-0 early but found themselves down 22-12 in the second half before tries to Lily Rogan (pictured) and Keeley Davis ensured they came away with the two points.
“It was good to see the girls not try to overplay things and fall back into shape and trust the process,” Alicia said of their Round 9 performance.
Currently third on the ladder with two rounds remaining, one more win would ensure the team’s place in the finals. However, Alicia says the team is taking it one step at a time as the pointy end of the season approaches.
“This competition is so close that you’ve got to be careful you don’t lapse even for a minute because that could be the difference between making the top four or missing out,” Alicia says.
“The atmosphere that the crowd was able to give the girls was phenomenal, which was a massive difference for us. We’re super grateful because we know how hard it is for everyone to get out, but hopefully, everyone can get down again this weekend, and we can put on another good performance.”
