Illawarra Rugby League Operations Manager, Nigel Roy will be stepping aside from his role, with his final date of employment on Friday 25th November.
Nigel joined the Illawarra Rugby League at the start of the 2022 season following a couple of disrupted years impacted through the pandemic. As part of the Illawarra Rugby League team, Nigel helped to navigate the sport through a weather affected season.
“I would like to thank the board of the Illawarra Steelers and the Illawarra Rugby League for the opportunity to lead the Steelers and the district. I have been privileged to hold this position and get to know the many great people from the clubs, sponsors and Rugby League stakeholders involved with running the game in the Illawarra,” Nigel said
The 2022 season will be noted for the challenges caused by weather conditions, however Nigel has been part of a number of key achievements during the year including the expansion of the Mojo Homes Illawarra Cup competition, commencement of initiatives for the NRL’s Player Development Framework, the 40th anniversary of the Illawarra Steelers entry into the ‘big time’ and the progression of available pathways for female participants with the successful addition of the Illawarra Steelers into the NSWRL Harvey Norman Women’s competition.
Nigel exits the role from the Illawarra Steelers and the Illawarra Rugby League with the future continuing to look bright for Rugby League in the district.
“The Illawarra Rugby League is fortunate to have the support of so many quality people who have the best interest at heart for participants of the game. The district also enjoys the tremendous support of the NSWRL who have played a key role in the expansion of our competitions.”
Due to a change in family circumstances, Nigel will be moving to South East Queensland joining his family after a number of years working interstate.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my role with the Illawarra Rugby League and Illawarra Steelers however the time is right to join my family in SE Queensland. I have been working with the Board over recent weeks to ensure a smooth transition for all parties”.
