Harrigan Premiership | Round 12 Preview

We’re back on track with Round 12 of the Harrigan Premiership this week, with a resurgent Thirroul hosting Wests after taking the two points from De La Salle last week. Wests head into the match with a 44-26 win over Dapto at home after the Canaries lowered their colours two weeks earlier.

While they have met twice this year, with the Devils getting the ‘W’ in Round 1 before the Butchers returned serve in Round 7, both have been patchy this year, having only recorded consecutive wins once.

Elsewhere, Collegians can expect another tough encounter with Dapto, whom they have beaten twice this year, with their biggest winning margin of just six points.

The Canaries are just one win outside the top four but are running out of chances to bridge the gap as the season approaches its pointy end.

Corrimal’s season hasn’t panned out as they would have hoped after a bright start with a win over Dapto in the second round. The Cougars must produce their best to give themselves a chance to match it with De La Salle in the Shire.

The Lower Grades

The race for the top two is heating up in the Harrigan Plate. Wests, who sit alone on top of the ladder with 18 points, are preparing to take on the Cougars, whom they beat 46-0 in Round 3.

Fourth-placed Avondale Wombats are at home to second-placed Berkeley for the first time this season. Just one competition point separates them on the table.

The Butchers and Helensburgh will lock horns at Gibson Park, the Tigers needing a win to keep their finals chances alive. Collegians and Dapto is the remaining fixture.

Avondale Greyhounds and Figtree Crushers will put their undefeated records on the line in Harrigan Shield action this weekend. They also line up against each other for the first time this season after their earlier bout was a washout.

The Greyhounds beat the Eagles 42-6 last week and boast an impressive 330 points for and just 94 against, while the Crushers have been hampered by a series of washouts and byes. Their last game back in Round 8 on 15 June.

The Wombats are home to the Eagles, Corrimal hosts West, and Norths face Windang at Jim Allen Oval.
