Harrigan Premiership | Round 11 Preview

Updated Friday, 5 July

Washed Out | IRL Fixtures 5-6 July – Due to the fields being saturated, participant safety, and the threat of more rain, the IRL has made the difficult decision to cancel all Senior, Junior, LeagueTag and Merge Competition games this weekend. This round will be declared a washout across Senior, Junior Mod/Tag competitions and will not be replayed. Separate communications about replaying any merge competition matches will be communicated by NSWRL  in due course.

Wests and Collegians will face off for the second time this season in Round 11 of the Harrigan Premiership this Saturday. With a top-two spot on the line, Collies will also seek revenge for their 34-10 defeat at the hands of the Devils in Round 6.

De La Salle hosts Dapto at Captain Cook Oval, with the Canaries the only team to have beaten the Shire outfit this season, following their 28-18 victory in Round 6.

Since that loss, De La has won four on the trot, including wins over Wests, Collegians, and Thirroul, to sit four points clear of the Devils and Collies, who are in equal second.

The Canaries last-start win over the Devils catapulted them back into top-four contention, now equal fourth with Thirroul after a slow start to the season, which saw them lose their first two games by six points or less and draw 16-all with the Butchers.

After a close loss to Collies last week, the Cougars need to bring the same intensity against a Thirroul team coming off a defeat by De La Salle to secure their second win.

The Lower Grades

The Devils (2) host Helensburgh (5) at Sid Parrish Park on Saturday afternoon in the Harrigan Plate.  Coming off a convincing 38-0 win over Dapto and losing just one game this season to co-leaders Avondale Wombats, the Devils look hard to beat. The Tigers, who have had a mixed season with two wins, two draws, and three losses, need a win to keep in touch with the top four.

It’s 3 vs. 4 at Berkeley Sports Ground when the Eagles host the Butchers, who toppled the previously undefeated Wombats 26-10 last week.

Collies host the Wombats in the remaining game, with Dapto and Corrimal having the bye.

In Harrigan Shield, first-placed Figtree Crushers can consolidate their position with a victory when they host the improving Wombats. The Wombats have won their last two games after losing four of their first five.

The undefeated Avondale Greyhounds boast the best for and against in the competition, with 248 points for and just 48 against. They meet Berkeley Eagles for the first time this season, coming off a big win over the Cougars.

In contrast, last year’s premiers have yet to fare as well in the points department, winning three games by six points or less, and losing three games by six or less.

Elsewhere, the Cougars and Windang will face off at Ziems Park. Wests and Norths have the bye.
