The Illawarra Steelers have secured their place in the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership semi-finals next week with a 28-8 win over last year’s premiers, the Wests Tigers in the final round.
The Steelers scored four unanswered tries in the first half through Shakiah Tungai, Jordyn Preston, Viena Tinao, and Teagan Berry to lead 24-0 at the break.
The Tigers scored first in the second stanza before Josie Strong posted a four-pointer to extend the lead and wrap up a place in the playoffs in their inaugural season. The Steelers finished second in the regular season and will play the Bulldogs (3rd) in next week’s semi-final on Sunday, 23 April, at Leichhardt Oval.

The Steelers also advanced to the semi-finals in Tarsha Gale Cup after defeating the Parramatta Eels 20-4 in their sudden-death playoff in Week One of the Finals. The Eels took the early lead before Steelers centre Mia-Rose Walsh scored her 10th try of the season to give her side a 6-4 lead at half-time.
The Steelers shut the gate on their opposition with three unanswered tries in the second half. Courtney Crawford’s side will take on the Bulldogs in next week’s semi-final on Saturday, 22 April, at Leichhardt Oval.
