The defending premiers marched to the top of the table with a convincing 26-4 win over Wests at a windy Parrish Park on Saturday. The loss was the second in a row for the usually consistent Devils after remaining undefeated through the first eight rounds.
Wests started brightly with a four-pointer to five-eighth Mitch Porter in the first minute before Collies hit back through Sam McCann (pictured), the first of his three tries, and a Callum Gromek length-of-field effort which saw them take a 10-4 lead into the break. Three unanswered tries in the second stanza, including McCann’s double, sealed the win for the visitors.
Dapto kept their finals chances alive with a 22-18 win over fourth-placed Thirroul to move within four points of the Butchers with five competitions games remaining. Elsewhere, De La Salle got back into the winner’s circle after last week’s loss to Collies, with a 26-10 win over Corrimal.
In First Division’s top-of-the-table clash, Wests and Collies scored two tries apiece in their 10-all draw. Fourth-placed Dapto gave themselves some breathing space with an 18-8 win over the Butchers.
